Two sections, four timed modules

The Digital SAT contains Reading and Writing followed by Math. Reading and Writing has 54 questions across two 32-minute modules. Math has 44 questions across two 35-minute modules. A 10-minute break separates the sections, producing 2 hours and 14 minutes of standard testing time before breaks.

What “adaptive” means

Each section uses two-stage adaptive testing. The first module contains a broad mixture of question difficulty. Performance in that module influences the difficulty mixture in the second module. Your section score still reflects performance across both modules, so the goal is steady accuracy—not trying to guess which route you received.

Important: You can review and change answers within the current module while time remains, but you cannot return after advancing to the next module.

Reading and Writing

Reading and Writing questions use short passages or passage pairs and cover four domains: Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, and Standard English Conventions. Effective preparation should mix reading analysis, evidence selection, vocabulary in context, rhetorical revision, transitions, grammar, and punctuation.

Math

Math focuses on Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry. Most questions are multiple choice, while some require a student-produced response. Calculator access is available throughout Math, subject to the current College Board calculator policy.

How this changes your study plan

  1. Practice in timed blocks so decisions remain accurate under module-level time limits.
  2. Review both missed questions and uncertain guesses; each reveals a different weakness.
  3. Mix topics regularly because every module draws from multiple content domains.
  4. Use full adaptive practice tests periodically, while spending most sessions on focused skill work.
