Regents study planning

Build a Regents plan for your exact subject.

Create a subject-specific Regents study plan using current NYSED materials, course evidence, past examinations, scoring guides, and targeted review.

The strongest Regents plan begins with the course—not with a generic calendar. Confirm the exact examination, current standards, administration date, and official materials, then use classroom evidence and past questions to prioritize the work.

Create an exam-specific inventory

List the units and response types for the exact exam. Use the teacher’s course outline, recent assignments, and current NYSED materials. Mark each area as secure, developing, or not yet secure, and attach evidence rather than relying on confidence alone.

For ELA and social studies, include source analysis and writing tasks. For mathematics and science, include concepts, procedures, models, data interpretation, and the correct use of reference materials.

Use past exams as diagnostic tools

Complete a recent aligned exam or a representative selection under controlled conditions. Score it with the matching official materials. Record the standard, task type, reason for the error, and what a complete response required.

Do not exhaust every past exam immediately. Preserve at least one aligned paper for a later full rehearsal. Use individual questions from other papers for focused practice.

Build a weekly correction cycle

Start the week with one or two priority skills, teach or review the underlying concept, complete untimed examples, then move to timed Regents-style items. End by correcting work in the form the scoring guide rewards.

Constructed responses need more than a correct idea. Practice showing reasoning, citing evidence, labeling work, and answering every part of the prompt. Compare the response with official scoring guidance.

Prepare for the administration

In the final phase, complete a full aligned exam under realistic timing and with only permitted materials. Review the official schedule and ask the school about location, arrival, supplies, accommodations, and make-up policies.

  • Use the exact reference sheet or table provided for the course.
  • Match every practice exam to its scoring key.
  • Review recurring standards, not isolated question numbers.
  • Ask the teacher when old materials conflict with current instruction.
Best source of truth: NYSED provides statewide examination materials; the student’s school is the best source for the exact exam, local schedule, eligibility, and course-specific expectations.
